 2026 Meetings and Events

March14:"Detroit Riverwalk: Reclaiming Detroit's Waterfront as a Gathering Place for All" Learn about the riverfront restoration for the five mile riverwalk from Belle Isle Bridge to Ambassador Bridge with parks, greenways and wildlife refuge, 350 different species of birds.

April 11:"The Science of a Changing Climate and the Resulting Environmental Effects" presented by Chris Edwards, meteorologist, climate science expert and former weather forcaster for WJBK TV/Fox 2 and WXYZ /Ch 7. Also learn about winter 2025, Polar Vortex and Jet Stream.

May 2:"Backyard Composting: Recycle Yard and Garden Waste" Learn the decomposition process, how to compost, hot and cold composting, materials and getting started.  

June 13:"Gorgeous Hardy Daylilies" Hybridized by Kristen Hatfield, Zanesville, Ohio. Learn about Kristen's hybridizing goals and how she achieved her gorgeous daylilies. A bargain daylily auction will follow. 
 
July 11 Sat : Daylily Exibition and Plant Sale
Telly's Greenhouse, 4343 24 Mile Rd,Shelby Twp.
9:30am-2:00pm visit and vote for your favorite daylilies.Sale coupons & drawing for free daylilies.
See hundreds of varities every color except blue
See many bloom forms, 2"-10", spiders & doubles

August (future date)  Sat: Tour Detroit Riverwalk parks, events, bird watching 
 
AUGUST TBD: Garden visit to Jim Slezinski Tropical Garden, Lake Orion 

SEPT 12:"Al Goldner Historic Daylilies" presented by Saundra Dunn who grows a huge collection of Goldner daylilies. Goldner hybridized  daylilies that are hardy and showy in a landscape with big blooms and tall plants.  A barbain auction of award winning daylilies will follow. 

OCTOBER 3:"Beneficial Garden Insects" Presented by Dr. Rufus Isaacs of MSU.  Learn about beneficial insects that are natural enemies of garden pests and how you can attract beneficial insects to your garden.  Receive free charts listing native plants that attract beneficial insects. 

NOVEMBER 7:"Firefly Conservation, Protecting the Jewels of the Night" Learn about the many amazing types of fireflies and how you can help to protect them. Beautiful, amazing program. Receive a free Firefly Conservation Guide.
